Wheels of Wellness Stratford Medical Centre

The WOW Program is an outreach service that delivers free mobile healthcare to the most disadvantaged community members in the Cairns region. Our Service users are often experiencing homelessness, in “at risk” situations and present with complex and chronic needs. These are addressed by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors, nurses and social workers in weekly outreach clinics that take place in various locations, including homeless shelters, youth and women's centres and on the streets of Cairns. WOW partners with PCYC and Kapani Warriors to provide community health education and culturally informed practice.

By engaging people who have otherwise been overlooked by traditional healthcare services, we aim to improve housing and employment stability, social engagement and good health. This has wider community implications, as first line medical care decreases unnecessary emergency presentations, patient wait times, and the massive long-term cost associated with individual disability.
