How to get help through GIVIT

To access donated items or services through GIVIT, please connect with a support organisation registered with GIVIT that can assess your needs and provide assistance. This organisation can then place a request on GIVIT on your behalf. Click here for more information on how to get support through GIVIT.

St Vincent De Paul - Soup Vans Victoria

Our Soup Vans offer food, social connection and referral pathways out of homelessness and poverty, to people experiencing or at risk of, homelessness and disadvantage.
Our soup van services are located in metropolitan and regional Victoria and undertake street service of meals to our friends on the street and people experiencing food insecurity in boarding and rooming houses, crisis accommodations, social housing and other residential locations.

The Vinnies Soup Vans are run by dedicated volunteers, known as Vannies, who annually provide over 700,000 meals to people in need. Our soup vans operate 365 days a year, rain, hail or shine!

St Vincent de Paul - St Agnes Conference Port Macquarie

Welfare support for those in need. We issue vouchers for food and clothing. We help with special requests for school items, petrol, funerals education expenses. We strongly support social justice. We see clients in our office. We are yet to resume home visitation to those who cannot access our office.

St Vincent de Paul - St Mary's Conference - Warwick

We are part of St Vincent de Paul Society. We assist people in need with food, clothing, footwear, white goods, household items, blankets, linen, furniture such as beds, cupboards, tables and chairs, cutlery, crockery and more. We also assist with pharmacy, fuel, toiletries and ladies monthly needs. We get people coming to us for assistance for various reasons such as difficulty in paying electricity bills, domestic violence situations, homelessness, young people couch surfing and more.

St Vincent de Paul - Vinnies Support Centre - Crows Nest

Vinnies Support Centres are client-centered support and referral services operated by the St Vincent de Paul Society. They offer face to face support to those in the community who require financial, food or material assistance. The support teams will work with you to offer the best possible support for your needs and link you in with the Society's Conference home visitation teams or Vinnies Services.

We represent Our Lady of Miraculous Medal at Woody Point. 4019. We are not a retail SVDP shop, but we are Family Welfare and our conference goes out into our clients homes and assess their needs and listen to their requests. We try to help with food, Go Cards, clothes, furniture , accommodation. Other help we give paying registration if someone is living in their car or need the car to seek employment. We direct our clients to legal assistance, dental and medical assistance.

The St Vincent de Paul Society provides essential assistance and emergency relief to people and families facing social and financial difficulties and are in need of support. The Society provides both immediate relief and ongoing support and opportunities for people to improve their lives and to achieve better outcomes for themselves and their families. The Society's members, volunteers and staff meet with people everyday who for various reasons need some form of support, whether it's material need, financial pressures or social disadvantage or personal crisis as well as those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and those dealing with natural disasters, the Society provides practical assistance, providing a "hand up" (not a "hand out") to people in need. The Society provides food, health and education assistance, clothing, household items and furniture, as well as no interest loans, financial counselling, Christmas hampers, referrals and other assistance as required.

St Vincent de Paul Society - Canberra/Goulburn - Clemente

The Clemente Program is an undergraduate education program offered by the St Vincent de Paul Society in partnership with the Australian Catholic University. It aims to break the cycle of poverty, inequality and social injustice for disadvantaged and marginalised people by providing opportunities to engage in a meaningful way with society, both socially and economically, through access to university-level study. Students study towards a non-award accredited university qualification, the Certificate in Liberal Studies. The achievement of studying at a university level for someone who has been living on the edge of society can be truly transformative.

The community inclusion program provides flexible, empowering opportunities for the individuals with a disability and their family members/carers to access respite, in home support, community participation, educational and recreational activities in the community.

Compeer is a befriending program that matches trained volunteers in one-to-one friendships with people who are living with a diagnosed mental illness and often experience social isolation. A Compeer volunteer is someone who wants to make a difference to another person’s quality of life.
Compeer Program is part of SVDP Special Works programs.

What is Samaritan House?
Samaritan House has provided support and accommodation to single men in the Canberra region since 1995, it is the only provider of crisis accommodation for single men in the ACT and experiences a huge demand for its twelve bedrooms.
Who can access this service?
Single men that are currently or at risk of homelessness
Where is the service located?
Samaritan House is a large property located on the north side of Canberra and is open twenty four hours a day.
What are the benefits from accessing this service?
It is a central hub for homeless men in the ACT and priority is given to support of men with complex and multiple needs. We have effective relationships with external agencies and a volunteer group assisting our guests with information, group work, skills training and a sympathetic ear.

St Vincent de Paul Society - Canberra/Goulburn - Street to Home Program

Street to Home supports people who are ‘sleeping rough’ in Canberra. The service has a strong focus on both physical and mental health. Street to Home has six flats for crisis or housing first options for rough sleepers. Street to Home works under the Service Guarantee from specialist homelessness services, and upholds the ACT Mental Health Charter of Rights.

St Vincent de Paul Society - IARC House

We are a Residential Rehabilitation Service for Drug and Alcohol in Ipswich. We provide after care support for our clients who manages to complete and graduate from our three months program. Within that after care support we would like to help them to sort out their accommodation/ furniture and other household appliances. Givit is a great organisation that we would like to networking with.

Domestic and family violence

If your life is in danger, call Triple Zero 000 for emergency assistance.

If you have experienced or are at risk of family and domestic violence and/or sexual assault, contact the National Sexual Assault, Family & Domestic Violence Counselling Line on 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732). 1800 RESPECT is also contactable via text, online chat or video call and is available 24 hours.

 

Financial hardship

The National Debt Helpine provides free, independent and confidential financial counselling via phone or live chat, Monday to Friday. You can call them on 1800 007 007.

Mob Strong Debt Helpline is a free advice service about money matters for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. They can be contacted on 1800 808 488, Monday to Friday.

 

Homelessness

If you’re experiencing or at risk of homelessness, you can find homeless shelters near you by searching on the Ask Izzy website.

Your state or territory government can also help. Listed below are the options by state or territory.

 

Mental health, depression or anxiety

If you or someone else’s life is in daanger, call Triple Zero 000.

You can access 24/7 crisis support by calling Lifeline on 13 11 14. You can also contact Lifeline via text or online chat.

You can talk to a counsellor 24/7 through Beyond Blue. You can also access brief counselling with Beyond Blue via online chat.

If you’re a young person aged 12-25, you can talk to a trained clinician, you can contact Headspace 7 days a week between 9am and 1pm by calling 1800 650 890 or via online chat.

 

For First Nations Australians

If you’re a First Nations Australian and you are going through a tough time, you can call 13YARN (13 92 76) to talk with an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander crisis supporter.

 

Children or young people experiencing hardship

Children and young people aged 5 – 25 can access support through Kids Helpline by calling 1800 55 1800 or through online chat 24/7.

 

For people living with disability

The Disability Gateway is an Australian Government service to help people with disability, their family, friends and carers find the support they need. They can be contacted on 1800 643 787, Monday to Friday.

 

For refugees and asylum seekers

If you’re a refugee or asylum seeker and you need help, you can contact the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre on 03 9326 6066 Monday to Friday for support.

 

For people struggling with addiction

The National Alcohol and Other Drug Hotline is a 24/7 service that provides free and confidential advice about alcohol and other drugs. You can call them on 1800 250 015.
